Robert Kiyosaki wrote one of the best-selling books called Rich Dad Poor Dad. In the book, he reveals secrets about how to become rich.
There are so many valuable lessons throughout this book. I discussed several in my previous article about the lessons that I’ve learned from reading the book.
Today I will focus on my top 10 Rich Dad Poor Dad quotes and explain how it relates to me.
“In the real world, the smartest people are people who make mistakes and learn. In school, the smartest people don’t make mistakes.”
Throughout high school and college, church, I experience this with professors/coaches where if you made mistakes you were punished for it.
I had a difficult time learning in school, I was very hyper, and had a hard time sitting in a class listening to someone lecture for hours.
I made many mistakes over and over. I was taught that it was wrong but never viewed it as a lesson that I could learn from.
“It’s not what you say out your mouth that determines your life. It’s what you whisper to yourself that has the most power”
You can say whatever you want however what you think about it in your mind. So what’s on the inside you whether positive or negative will reflect on the outside.
“Don’t be addicted to money. Work to learn. Don’t work for money. Work for knowledge.”
Working for money will only make you work harder. If you work to learn a skill that will add value to you.
“The trouble with school is they give you the answers, then they give you the exam. That’s not life”
In life, nothing in life is given to you. If you want something bad enough you have to go after it regardless of the challenges or obstacles. You have to become a problem solver.
“Complaining about your current position in life is worthless. Have a spine and do something about it.”
Many people complain about how their jobs don’t pay them enough but never decide to do anything about it. Complaining about your situation will not make it better instead create income using your talent or gift.
“Often the more money you make the more money you spend. That’s why more money doesn’t make you rich.”
When we make more we want more. When a raise is given we purchase a bigger house or car, and we shop. Focus on your assets, not liabilities that is what makes you rich.

In today’s fast-changing world it’s not so much what you know anymore that counts, because often what you know is old. It is how fast you learn.
“If your fear is too strong the genius is suppressed”
When we allow fear to set in us it robs us of our dreams, ideas, and relationships and we are unable to move forward.
“You’ll often find it’s not mom or dad, husband or wife, or the kids that’s stopping you it is you. Get out of your way.”
Our past beliefs or programs hold us back from achieving success.
“Sight is what you see what your eyes. Vision is what you see with your mind”
We all have tremendous potential and we all are blessed with gifts. Yet, the one thing that holds us all back is some degree of self-doubt. It is not so much technical information that holds us back but more the lack of self-confidence.
All of these quotes I could relate to along with many others. The Rich Dad Poor Dad book helped me understand why I was never successful in business and revealed why it was such a struggle.
